The characteristics of paralleled mosfets will not be guaranteed to be exactly the same due to manufacturing differences, tolerances etc, so your design needs to allow for this.

Heatsinking

Paralleled mosfets should be placed close together and use the same heatsink so they are thermally matched.

Current Sharing Resistor

You typically need to use a source current sharing resistor when paralleling mosfets.

PCB traces

For the current carrying traces you should typically star them and try and match the length of tracks to each mosfet from the star source point.

Gate Drive

There is some debate about whether these should be separately driven with their own feedback loop but often its fine to common the gates.

USEFUL?
We benefit hugely from resources on the web so we decided we should try and give back some of our knowledge and resources to the community by opening up many of our company’s internal notes and libraries through mini sites like this. We hope you find the site helpful.
Please feel free to comment if you can add help to this page or point out issues and solutions you have found, but please note that we do not provide support on this site. If you need help with a problem please use one of the many online forums.
